Mr. Eaves comes off looking very good. I for one, will be praying about this election. I have always lined up with the Republican agenda, but I am really disgusted by the Republican ads. Maybe this time I will change my tradition. Maybe I will vote for the "little guy."

I see this man as a pretender. He is able to talk "the talk." He is not walking the walk.

And what about do not bear false witness? He makes acusations that are questionable.

He SUPPORTS PRO-CHOICE AND PRO-GAY RIGHTs Democrats.

What are you thinking Matt?

John Eaves says he is for the poor. Have you seen his house, or his Parents home? I have a hard time believing in someone, who's wealth is displayed in such extravagance. At least Haley Barbour does not pretend to be poor to get the vote!

Mr Eaves looks very good? He supports pro-choice and pro-gay rights activists. How is this acceptable?

He says it is because Democrats try to "help" people.

Haley Barbour helped us on the Coast by making sure that our NEIGHBORS ("love thy neighbor as thyself") had their jobs back after Hurricane Katrina.

Those people are working. That helps them. That gives them insurance. They EARN money. Democrats help people by setting up and expanding "welfare" programs!

If you close down Casinos that is what the employees will need, WELFARE! Many were on welfare before the Casinos were built.

Mr Eaves puts on the outward appearance of Christianity. But is killing babies "acceptable"
even for people who say they are "helping people"? Is abortion okay then? Mr Eaves supported pro-abortion candidates because these Democrats "help people."

This is a values candidate? What values? Oh yeah, he's against the casinos. So does Matt support him because he's against the casinos?

Any Christian who supports Mr. Eaves be ready to give an account to the Lord Jesus Christ and remember that the Bible says, "Many will come in my name..."

I fear that if Mr. Eaves is elected he would bring reproach on the Christians who are committed to the value of LIFE. But it will also make Christians appear eager to make casino workers lose their their jobs and their insurance. It will give them instead, welfare programs and Medicaid which will be paid for by the taxpayers.

Please forgive me, but Christians are called to be faithful to Jesus Christ. Not to be faithful to any man or party or set of standards apart from the word of God. The Bible says, "Thou shall do no murder."
(Abortion is MURDER.)

Not one of the Ten Commandments says anything about gambling!

Gambling is a destructive habit and it is not a godly business enterprise. But there are thousands of ungodly businesses operating in Mississippi.

The Casinos may not be godly. But no one is compelled to go to them.
There are bookstores, liquor stores, provocative clothing stores, pornography, illegal drugs, alcoholism, bars, nightclubs, stripe clubs and prostitution, etc. The cause is the sin nature of mankind. The cure is Salvation through the Blood of the Lamb!

Being against gambling is a matter of conscious and principle. But to constantly attack casinos is an easy way to "look Christian." But many Christians believe that true Christianity requires more.

There are many who work in the Casinos because they have been given a chance to work and provide a living and insurance to themselves and their families. They did not have that before. Many were on welfare or couldn't make a decent living before.

Condemnation of the Casino industry unfairly places condemnation on those Mississippi citizens who are thankful to have those jobs.

Would you rather they stayed on Welfare and Food Stamps? Would you be happier as a Christian if this happened to your neighbors?

How is the love of God manifest by the self-righteous condemnation of others who try to improve their lives?

Churches on the Gulf Coast were not able to take care of the poor here before the Casinos. Do you think any Churches are coming forward to say, "We'll be glad to support and provide for those who will lose their jobs if the Casinos close"?

It is easy to spout off about improving the lives of Mississippians by making everything more "Christian."
But hurting our neighbors who are working at the Casinos and Casino related businesses, (i.e., laundry services, bakerys, taxis, hotels, restraunts, food services, sports, construction, printing, shipping and entertainment businesses, etc.) does not make us examples of Jesus Christ. It makes us look selfish and indifferent to those who need the respect and opportunity to work and provide for themselves.

If Christians are disturbed by the growth of the Casino Industry then they can seek to have it limited, as it currently is limited.

But don't think that voicing the desire to see the Gaming Industry destroyed makes you a good Christian.

Good Christians did little to help the poor before the Casinos came. Their indifference to the plight of the poor caused this problem. Their reasoning then was that WELFARE will take care of the poor.

Well guess what? The poor would rather work for their living, and Casinos, not Christians, gave them that chance to work. Christians did little to even preach the Gospel to the poor. They left that to Catholic Charities and the Salvation Army and the Rescue Mission. (Thank God for them.)

Now the Christians are crying out in anger at the Casinos.

Repent Church! It is the sin of the people of God that curses a land. Not the sin of the ungodly, because they still have the blessed hope of being born again.

Cure for gambling like for any sin or sinful environment is to preach the Gospel and to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ to those who are in sin.

But what hope is there for the Church if it becomes "lukewarm," self-righteous and uncompassionate?

Lastly, know that more churches than Casinos were destroyed on the Mississippi Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina.

I pray that what we went through here has taught us to value and pray for our neightbors and to be humbled by the hand of God that made little distinction between the saved and the unsaved, between the Holy and the unholy. But that taught us to seek God and to repent of our failure to seek and love the lost as Jesus Christ called us to do.

Don't let self-righteousness creep in again. We do not need another Katrina!

Well said misty.... My take on all politicians is this... Why would you spend so much more money trying to get elected for a job that pays less than you spent out trying to get the job...If they tell you "to make a difference" I question that.... I believe all that money could be put to far better use...and have far greater impact than being elected to office... Who changed this world far greater than any ruler in all of history has? I can think of only one... Jesus.

This call in show with Mr. Eaves was a joke. I am embarrassed for the host of this program. To not challange this man on his support of John Kerry. Do you really think this man can get prayer in school? This is a wolf in sheeps clothing and either Matt is stupid or he slanted the interview towards Eaves. I heard Haley interviewed on the Coast a few days ago, and the guy that interviewed him did an outstanding job. I think he is going to interview Mr. Eaves, I bet he doesn't let him off the hook like Matt did. THANK GOD, Haley will win big and the Mr. Eaves can go back to his law buisness and help the little guy. Maybe he and the little guy can sit around and shoot animals. May God help us all!

misty i think your comments about the size of his house is dumb... mr. eaves has never said that he was poor, but he has said that he wants to help the poor. and don't forget that Saint Barbour has been working hard for years making sure that teens all across this nation has more then enough smokes to mess up their lungs and lives. when our gov. allowed those casios to come 800 feet in-land he broke the law, but that doesn't matter because his pockets got a whole lot fatter because of it.

i'm sick with our gov., and i believe its time for a change. any man who claims to be a christian, but will say that to gamble is not a sin - (big breath)- IS NOT A CHRISTIAN. do you really think that Jesus would stand up for casios in any way? i don't think so, and i don't believe that we should!

Hello Anonymous,
I did not say anything about Mr. Eaves house. That was someone else.

Do I think Jesus would stand up for the Casinos? No. Would he stand up for the people who have jobs there? YES. In fact, He did more than that, He died for them,

Mr Eaves supported John Kerry in the election. John Kerry was the head of the Democratic Party on a platform of Abortion and Gay Rights, and he still stands for a liberal anti-christ agenda.

You are worried about Casinos and cigarettes, but you would support Mr. Eaves who said that support for a pro-abortion candidates is acceptable?

I don't understand that.

But God bless you for caring enough to have something to say.
I wish more Christians would start thinking and praying about these issues.

Every plaintiff's attorney (e.g. trial lawyer) spouts the same rhetoric about being in it for the "little guy." While there are certainly large companies that deserve to be sued, wrongs that need to be righted through the legal system, and attorneys who genuinely seek to help their clients, there are also those who, to borrow a phrase from I Peter, "...prowl around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

John Eaves derides Haley Barbour for making money through lobbying for big business and industry - entities that could clearly afford the cost of his services. John Eaves made his considerable fortune representing the "little guy" who could not afford an attorney except through a contingent fee arrangement which, in most cases, amounts to the attorney getting half, or more, of each settlement after fees and expenses are deducted. Yes, these folks received some compensation for their injuries, but the claims of altruism on the part of the lawyer begin to fade in light of the millions of dollars made off the "little guy."

When James Dobson made the comment that Fred Thompson doesn't talk about his faith, I thought immediately of John Eaves. Obviously, only God knows what is in a man's heart, and I am not saying that Eaves is not a Christian, but when a political candidate takes every opportunity to try to convince the voters how "Christian" he is, I cannot help but be skeptical.

On the other hand, as stated in previous comments, John Eaves is a Democrat, meaning he has aligned himself with a party that supports gay rights, abortion, and big government. Eaves himself has proposed several programs that, despite his claims to the contrary, will require large expenditures of taxpayer money to accomplish.

Actions speak louder than words.

WHEN IS MR BARBOUR GONNA BE ON THE PROGRAM?

James, In the interest of equal time I hosted Governor Barbour on WQST's Wesleyan Voice, heard Sunday Mornings @ 9 AM.

Dr. Falwell used to say, 'Let's remember we are not electing a Theologian In Chief, but a Commander in Chief." The same goes for the election of Mississippi's governor.

I respect Matt as a principled Godly man who is one of the most effective people I know in ministry. However, we disagree on the philosophy of making an election a one issue litmus test. As Governor Barbour says, "A person who agress with you 80% of the time is not your 20% enemy." 4 More Years.
