Only acceptable form of bigotry left...

Last week, the University of Virginia's student paper, The Cavalier Daily, ran a cartoon depicting a naked man smoking a cigarette in bed. Standing beside the bed, a woman in her underwear buttons up her shirt and asks, "Come on God, be honest - Did you really get a vasectomy? I can't let Joseph find out about this." The man replies, "Well, Mary, you're f***ed."

The editors used the week before Holy Week to run this bigoted cartoon belittling Christ and Christians. Just a day earlier, the paper ran a cartoon portraying a crucified Jesus telling jokes onstage.

Send an e-mail to Gov. Kaine and the members of the state college board asking that the university's newspaper show more class, intelligence and tolerance in the cartoons they run, and to stop their anti-Christian bias.

Playing the persecution card again?

What you forgot to point out is that they apologized:

"The Cavalier Daily sincerely regrets any offense readers may have taken to two recent comics in the strip TCB published March 13 and 14. The content of the Comics page reflects neither the views of the Managing Board nor of The Cavalier Daily as an institution. When the comics were considered for publication, they were deemed to have met The Cavalier Daily's censorship criteria, which can be found at this address. It is never the intention of The Cavalier Daily to offend, and we regret having done so.
UPDATE (3/15/08): In light of recent and previous concerns, The Cavalier Daily will be reviewing its comics policy."

I have to listen to people call atheists "stupid", "immoral", "horrible" and even had a U.S. President claim we were not really citizens.

Well, people are entitled to their opinions.

I try not to be too thin skinned.

You might want to get that raging case of persecution complex under control before it gets completely out of control. Telling a joke about a certain theological belief doesn’t equal bigotry by any stretch of the imagination.

I wish you and your co-religionists would understand that cartoons are just that: cartoons. Learn to compete in the marketplace of ideas instead of whining that the rest of us aren’t groveling to your beliefs with enough “respect.”

I definately do not support it, but to suggest that it is the "only acceptable form of bigotry left" is incorrect. In my opinion, one of the biggest forms of acceptable bigotry left is what we get on talk radio. I have listened to conservative radio for years and heard some of the most bigoted things. As in the case of Limbaugh, he gets rewarded the more bigoted he gets. AFR and other sites are much better, but they occasionally send praise in his direction. The skits and jokes made on conservative talk radio are much more accepted than bigotry against Christians.
