McCain - shoring up the conservative base

What does John McCain have to do to shore up his base?

Tell me.

I think he needs to follow the example of great Republicans from the past. Look at these great quotes from a great G.O.P. leader:

"Today Christians ... stand at the head of [this country]... I pledge that I never will tie myself to parties who want to destroy Christianity .. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit ... We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theater, and in the press - in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past ... (few) years." - Adolf Hitler, quoted in: The Speeches of Adolf Hitler, 1922-1939, Vol. 1 (London, Oxford University Press, 1942), pg. 871-872
-----------------------------------
"There is a road to freedom. Its milestones are Obedience, Endeavor, Honesty, Order, Cleanliness, Sobriety, Truthfulness, Sacrifice, and love of the Fatherland."
- Message, signed Hitler, painted on walls of concentration camps; Life, August 21, 1939
-----------------------------------
"Woman's world is her husband, her family, her children and her home. We do not find it right when she presses into the world of men."
- Adolf Hitler, quoted in Lucy Komisar, The New Feminism
-----------------------------------

In short, McCain isn't crazy enough to appeal to the right-wing zealots who want to destroy this countyr and replace it with a theocratical dictatorship.

Take your money and your votes and get Pat Robertson to run again.

You do not seem to understand the question. What does he have to do to shore up the base, not what does he have to do upset anti-religious zealots such as yourself?

He will be hard-pressed to get the base to get excited about his candidacy, but he can/should highlight the differences between himself and the eventual Democrat candidate. The base may not be happy, but will probably pull the lever for him anyway just to avoid the alternative. Most adults want to be lead by another adult, not by somebody that plays one on TV.
