Trent, and Chip

Sen. Trent Lott has resigned to make money, we all suspect. Rep. Chip Pickering is the choice of many to take his place.

Questions: Is it good for Mississippi when a guy like Lott decides to quit in the middle of term for personal reasons - like cashing in? Is that ethical? Is there another reason he might have quit?

And Chip. Can he legitimately take the position of senator now that he has said he didn't want to be a Congressman, hence resigning, because he wanted to spend time with that wife and those five boys? Does THAT lack integrity?

Chip quit on Mississippi. But he is a Pickering and will get his birthright. Sad day when he is a senator.

Trent Lott hasn't been representing MS for some time now. It is clear that he's been bought by the lobbyists before now, so why would it be surprising that he would quit his post early to get the chance to work as one of them a year earlier. This proves to me that we should have term limits for all public offices - Chip did the right thing to serve his time and go home. I pray he decides to stick with his convictions despite the pressure he will have to fill Lott's position.

Jason,
I agree. I hope Chip stays home and lets someone else fill this slot. I am thankful that Senator Lott is going home or at least out to the lobbyist pasture.
I think Lt Gov Tuck would make a fine replacement.
